To become a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) in California, Cal/OSHA requires the completion of two essential AHERA training courses: Building Inspector and Contractor/Supervisor. These mandatory prerequisites provide the foundational skills necessary to conduct building surveys and monitor abatement activities under the guidance of a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC). The Building Inspector course covers the identification of asbestos-containing materials (ACM), physical assessments, and bulk sampling techniques, while the Contractor/Supervisor course provides comprehensive instruction on site safety, work practices, and regulatory compliance for project oversight. Complete these CALOSHA/DOSH CSST Courses bundle and six months of supervised work experience to qualify for CSST certification. You can take the state exam after completing just three months of supervised work.
