California and federal regulations require that individuals that perform sampling and analysis for air-borne Asbestos dust take the NIOSH 582 Equivalency Course. The 5-day program includes the setup, calibration and use of the Phase Contrast Microscope (PCM) to evaluate air-borne Asbestos Samples as well as some statistics and sampling-related mathematics. Students will learn NIOSH-approved methods of collecting and evaluating airborne asbestos samples in occupational settings. Hands-on exercises complement classroom instruction on asbestos air sample analysis. This course is recommended for all site technicians and consultants who routinely perform field activities.
